FAQs for the Leh Ladakh Tour

Do I need any permits to travel in Leh Ladakh?
Indian citizens don’t need a permit for Leh town or common sites, but Inner Line Permits (ILPs, free for Indians) are required for border areas like Pangong Lake, Nubra, and Tso Moriri. Foreign travelers must obtain an ILP for Ladakh (available at Leh’s DC office or online).
How do I reach Leh and what transport is available?
You can fly into Leh’s airport (daily flights from Delhi; seasonal from Srinagar). By road, the Srinagar–Leh (via Zoji La) and Manali–Leh (via Rohtang Pass) highways open in summer. Buses, shared taxis, rental cars/bikes operate on these routes. The nearest railway station is Jammu Tawi (over 700 km away).
How can I avoid altitude sickness in Ladakh?
Leh is over 3,500 meters above sea level, so acclimatization is crucial. Rest for 1–2 days after arrival, avoid heavy activity initially, and stay hydrated. Over-the-counter med Diamox (acetazolamide) can help prevent symptoms. If you feel severe headache, nausea or dizziness, descend to a lower altitude.
What accommodation options are available?
Options range from basic guesthouses, Mudhouse and homestays to luxury hotels and resorts. In Leh town you’ll find hot showers and Wi-Fi. In Nubra and Pangong, accommodations are simpler guesthouses or tented camps. Summer is peak season, so book well in advance ( 5-6 weeks prior to your departure).
Is Ladakh safe for tourists?
Ladakh has low crime and is generally safe, but the main challenges are altitude and driving conditions. Drive cautiously on winding mountain roads (avoid night travel) and always stay hydrated. Locals are friendly and helpful, but carry basic medicines and travel insurance just in case.
Is there mobile and internet coverage in Leh Ladakh?
Coverage is limited. Bsnl, Jio and Airtel networks generally work in Leh and on main highways; other carriers may not. Many remote areas have no signal. Some hotels or cafes offer Wi-Fi, but it can be slow. Always download offline maps and tell family to expect low connectivity.
